Two Macedonian citizens got beheaded in Iraq. They seem to have been in the hands of the kidnappers since August 21 (a third Macedonian was in the kidnapped group at the time, what happened to him?), about the time the French journalists were abducted. Only minor reports here in the Italian news giving the notion that one brit or is worth more then two macedonians. It's all about what makes audience these days. Sincere condolences to the families.
People in Macedonia are poor, they don't have money to pay ransom demands (perhaps the real interest of these groups) and are scattered all over the world in the pursuit for better life and a chance to make a better living. When Macedonia was part of Yugoslavia and even today many firms would go to the Middle East asked by the governments of those countries to help and build something. If they came there they came to build and not to destroy.
Macedonia has a history of great hardship. Invasions, poverty, repressions... Been there, done that. But if you come to us I think you will see that we are hospitable people, hard workers and will make everything to make you feel right at home and will treat you as a friend. I really hope that we'll see soon an Iraq where people we'll state that Iraq is not the land of terrorists, that it never was and never will be. So one day people will come to your house and you can tell us about the hanging gardens of Hamurabi or something like that. Or even building the next hanging gardens together.
I say to all persons that these men were not spies and that I judge the people that executed as them very, very cruel persons with no justification for their actions. What they do has nothing to do with the "rèsistence" and can't find religious justification. For if they lie about why the hostages were killed, Allah will know it, right?
